
Rayford Trae Young (born September 19, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks (NBA). Trae Young was a member of the Oklahoma Sooners throughout his undergraduate career. With 22 assists in a single game in 2017, Trae Young tied the then-NCAA Division I single-game assist record.
Young became the first player in NCAA history to lead the NCAA in both points and assists in the same season. Trae Young was picked with the fifth pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks and was then traded to the Atlanta Hawks, along with a future first-round pick, for the draft rights to Luka Doni. He was named to the 2019 NBA All-Rookie First Team alongside Doni. Trae Young had two NBA All-Star appearances.
Young was regarded as one of the top athletes in the 2017 recruiting class by ESPN, Scout.com, and Rivals.com. In contrast to other publications, ESPN ranked him as the second-best point guard prospect of that year. Young chose to play with the Oklahoma Sooners on February 16, 2017. Young was the first five-star recruit for the University of Oklahoma since Tiny Gallon in 2010.
