Hey, we’ve all been there before, right? You think you have something really romantic going with someone else, then you find out in painful fashion that they don’t feel the same way, and you don’t take it well.
Of course, for most of us, that “someone else” isn’t a Brazilian supermodel, and not taking it well doesn’t involve failing to show up at Citi Field, when all you had to do was make it there before 4 p.m. and get paid a lot of money not to pitch that day.
By now, you’ve likely figured out that the person in question is Matt Harvey (well, the headline probably gave it away), who was suspended for three games and made a public apology after his no-show for a Mets game Saturday. According to New York tabloids, the reason he stayed out carousing until the wee hours Friday night was because he was still distraught after seeing photos of his presumed girlfriend, Adriana Lima, out with a former flame, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

The New York Post’s Page Six described Harvey as “an emotional wreck” in the wake of reports that Lima and Edelman had attended a Met Gala after-party together last week. The pair were said to be “flirting” with each other and otherwise having a darn fine time together.
“Adriana’s relationship with Matt was never serious,” a source told the N.Y. Post. “They are no longer seeing each other.”
That apparently came as news of the most unwelcome sort to the 28-year-old pitcher, plunging “The Dark Knight” into a dark night of the soul. He reportedly showed up with some friends at 1 a.m. to 1 Oak, the trendy nightclub where Lima and Edelman had been spotted, and spent the next three hours drowning his sorrows in “a triple play of top-shelf booze, including Armand de Brignac ‘Ace of Spades’ Champagne, Don Julio 1942 tequila and Belvedere vodka,” according to witnesses cited by the N.Y. Post.

The word the newspaper got from “baseball sources” was that Lima “really messed with Matt Harvey’s head.” The 35-year-old model was married to former NBA player Marko Jaric from 2008 to 2014, and she reportedly is in no hurry to settle down again.
Following her night out with Edelman, Lima sent a very modern we’re-through message by reportedly unfollowing Harvey on Instagram, then she took what some saw as a shot at Harvey in a post to that social media site Wednesday. Along with a meditation on the nature of an artist attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, Lima offered this caption: herRESPONSIBILITY EQUALS THE LOVE ON WHAT YOU DO.”
The missed game was the latest mishap to befall Harvey, who missed much of the 2016 season with an unusual injury, thoracic outlet syndrome, and has gotten off to a poor start this season. In six starts, Harvey is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA and just 20 strikeouts to 13 walks.
“I’m extremely embarrassed,” Harvey said of his unexcused absence said in a news conference Tuesday. “I put myself in a bad place to be ready for showing up to a ballgame and that is my responsibility.”
Meanwhile, some observers were quick to note that, having had their way with the Jets for well over a decade, the Patriots are now looking to make life miserable for other Big Apple athletes.
I'm more upset Matt Harvey lost Adriana Lima to Julian Edelman. Freaking New York can't beat the Patriots at anything.
