LeBron James opted out of playing for Team USA basketball at the Rio Olympics, but it sounds like he’s not entirely at peace with that decision. In fact, the Cavaliers superstar hinted at the possibility of returning to play for the United States at the 2020 Games.
“Every time I watch ’em I wish I was out there,” James told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. “I did not retire from Team USA. I just did not play this summer. So I still left the door open.”
James sat for the ESPN interview Wednesday morning, before Team USA’s dominant, 105-78 win over Argentina in the Olympic quarterfinals. Given how underwhelming the squad of NBA stars had looked in its previous three games prior to Wednesday, James’s comments could have been construed as a feeling that his leadership skills and/or playing abilities were sorely missed.
